"
One of the most awful words in our beautiful English language is 'Forgotten'.
It is often self-inflicted, people say they are forgotten and it turns
into self-fulfilling prophecy unless they project their past and the pasts
of others inspirationally into the long future.

Rather
than statues and plaques, Vada and I have always put honored names on
the piggy-backing of history via educational assistance. Rather than forgotten,
those old names reach out annually to enrich young lives and prepare them
for roles in the future where their lives will be lived.

As
an example, the Radio and TV News Directors Foundation bearing the names
of broadcasting pioneers have helped more than 300 young people in to
broadcast news careers.

One
of the four Normandy scholarships at the University of Nebraska Foundation
is named for D-Day casualty Private Lester J. Horn who had learning difficulties.
His teachers college scholarship annually goes to a teacher who specializes
in such handicapped instruction. Each such teacher to be is given our
video NORMANDY REMEMBERED, which tells the story of each man's life in
Nebraska and heroism on the beaches of Normandy. Often these teachers
say they will teach well into the 21st Century and they vow to show that
video to every class taught. That's better than any memorial bouquet that
wilts or wreath that fades. That is Living Memorialization.

For those who have never given scholarship establishment serious thought,
thinking it beyond their grasp and resources, let nothing deter you.

By
using the cumulative method and taking one's time, it's relatively easy
to do; and there's hardly anything equal to it in satisfaction when it
materializes and becomes operational."
