Vada Kinman Oldfield & Col. Barney Oldfield Nebraska Dollars For Scholars
Lincoln Nebraska May 3, 2001: Through a generous gift from Col. Barney Oldfield, each year a Dollars for Scholars chapter in Nebraska will receive an award to be given as a scholarship in Bob Kerrey’s name. Nebraska has recently established Dollars for Scholars chapters in communities across the state. These chapters raise local money to be given out in scholarships. Ardyce Bohlke, executive director of Dollars for Scholars in Nebraska, stated “Bob Kerrey always stepped to the plate when schools were in need, it is fitting that an educational scholarship be established in his name.” The chapter selected will be the one showing the most growth in donations in their respective communities. Col. Oldfield said “I hope the citizens of Nebraska will join me in establishing the Sen. Bob Kerrey Dollars For Scholars Scholarship. Because Vada, my wife, was a veteran, and I too, am a veteran, it would be wonderful to have other veterans join with educators across the state in this endeavor.
Ms. Bohlke stated that donations may be sent to Nebraska Dollars For Scholars, P.O. Box 81294, Lincoln NE 68501. Soon, Nebraska will have chapters in 25 communities and through the Foundation for Education Funding, Inc. will have granted $50,000 in challenge grants to these chapters, Together with donations from the local communities, close to $1000,000.00 will be awarded to Nebraska students through the Vada Kinman Oldfield and Col.
