In
1959, Barney founded the NORAD band. The band was composed of musicians
representing the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force and the Royal Canadian
Air Force. It was the only international, interservice band in existence.
Initially
appearing before small audiences, the band later appeared on such shows
as NBC's Steve Allen Show in May 1960.
