A Chance Meeting

Vada & Barney:
A relationship that would span 68 years and countless adventures together

In Tokyo
Barney met Vada Margaret Kinman, a fellow student at the University of Nebraska in 1931.

"One day, I saw coming towards me between classes this pert girl, scowling into a grit-laden wind. Says I blithely, "A girl that pretty should never frown." She turned to her girlfriend and said, "Who is that clown?" Luckily for me, a few days later she reversed her opinion. The stage was set. That magic bit of campus, no matter how drab it really was, became the frame for the educational, the sentimental and the start-up of a great lifelong adventure which took us through war and peace to 81 countries on every continent. Were it not for that campus encounter, we would have missed all that was to be."
