Barney first met Ronald Reagan on April 1, 1939, while covering the premiere of the film DODGE CITY. Reagan came aboard the press train and requested that Barney, "Write something nice about me." Barney has been doing just that ever since. When Barney worked for Warner Brothers after the war, he served as publicist to Ronald Reagan and developed what would become a lifelong friendship. Reagan, then a Democrat, and Barney, a staunch Republican, often had lunch together and discussed politics.
